Solution – Puzzle 1 – The Loneliest Number

Posted on July 20, 2020July 20, 2020 by delajeff

The song hinted at by the puzzle is One, which features the refrain, β€œOne is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do.” The 5 theme answers are as follows:

  • 13A, 28A, 23A – Three Dog Night – The late 60’s/early 70’s band that popularized (but did not write!) the song One.
  • 1A – Magnolia – The soundtrack to this 1999 Paul Thomas Anderson movie prominently featured a version of One performed by Aimee Mann, first recorded in 1995 for a tribute album for the author of the song…
  • 20D – Aerial – One was written and first performed by Harry Nillson on his album Aerial Ballet.
